Analysis of the effect of temperature, pressure, heating and cooling time on the bonding of the commercial QuadrathaneTM biopolymer with a radiopaque Tungsten band using the electromagnetic induction heating method

Description

In the present project the heating time, temperature, cooling time and pressure were evaluated in the union of commercial biopolymer Quadrathane to a radiopaque Tungsten band using the electromagnetic induction heating method. The union process between both materials was improved in conjunction with company engineers. With the improvements to the process, a process performance index of 2.67 was achieved. Through an analysis of a factor at a time, the levels for each factor under study were determined in order to be able to propose the experimental design, which allows us to find the ideal conditions of the process so that the specification of the tension test proposed in the product design in addition to the cosmetic finish of the union of both materials. For the analysis of the experimental design, the MiniTab software was used. This program generated the statistical graphs which determined that the effect of the temperature and the heating time are the major contributors in the union and finishing of the material. Techniques such as SEM and EDS were used to further study the union and in this way to be able to compare units built in different operating conditions and thus act as evidence that the chosen operational parameters show a good diffusion between the materials at the time of being placed tested in the stress test

Abstract (Spanish)

En el presente proyecto se evaluo el tiempo de calentamiento, temperatura, tiempo de enfriamiento y presion en la union de biopolimero comercial Quadrathane a una banda radiopaca de Tungsteno utilizando el metodo de calentamiento por induccion electromagnetica. Se procedio a mejorar el proceso de union entre ambos materiales en conjunto con ingenieros de la empresa. Con las mejoras al proceso se logro alcanzar un indice de desempeno del proceso de 2.67. Mediante un analisis de un factor a la vez, se determinaron los niveles para cada factor en estudio para asi poder plantear el diseno experimental, el cual nos permite encontrar las condiciones ideales del proceso para que se cumpla la especificacion de prueba de tension planteada en el diseno del producto ademas del acabado cosmetico de la union de ambos materiales. Para el analisis del disenos experimental se utilizo el software MiniTab. Este programa genero los graficos estadisticos cuales se determino que el efecto de la temperatura y el tiempo de calentamiento son los mayores contribuyentes en la union y acabado del material. Se utilizo tecnicas como SEM y EDS para estudiar mas a fondo la union y de esta manera poder comparar unidades construidas en diferentes condiciones de operacion y asi actuar como evidencia que los parametros operacionales escogidos muestran una buena difusion entre los materiales a la hora de ser puestos a prueba en el ensayo de tension.
