Description
By means of pulse radiolysis combined with detection by optical absorption spectroscopy, radical transients generated in molten polyethylene (PE) blended with various phenols were identified by spectral and kinetic arguments. It was found that the scavenger radicals are formed by three pathways - by trapping of PE singlet excitons, via electron attachment with subsequent charge neutralization and by reaction of PE alkyl radicals.
