Progress on research and development towards realization of fusion energy

Description
On the progress in research and development for the realization of fusion energy at the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST), the Series No. 5 and No. 6 mainly explain the ITER project and broader approach activities. The Series No. 5 (this paper) introduces the following: (1) R&D strategy of fusion DEMO for verification of power generation, (2) ITER project as a large-scale international research cooperation project: development state of the devices whose manufacture is in charge of QST, such as superconducting coils, neutral particle injection heating devices, and high-frequency heating devices, and (3) test blanket module experiment plan where test is performed using ITER. 量研における核融合エネルギーの実用化に向けた研究開発の進展について,ITER 計画および幅広いアプローチ活動を中心にシリーズ第5回および第6回にて解説する。第5回では,発電実証を行う原型炉の研究開発戦略について述べた後,大型国際研究協力プロジェクトである ITER 計画について,量研が製作を担当する超伝導コイル,中性粒子入射加熱装置および高周波加熱装置の開発状況とともに,ITER を用いて試験を行うテストブランケットモジュール試験計画を紹介する。(著者)Additional details
