New results regarding the α-sticking fraction in muon-catalyzed d-t fusion
Description
In initial investigations of muon-catalyzed fusion in high-density deuterium-tritium mixtures, the authors demonstrated that the resonant dtμ-molecular formation rates were 3 orders of magnitude larger than muon decay rates. They also measured for the first time the α-sticking fraction (muon retention by the fusion α product). The authors concluded that the α-sticking fraction, not the dtμ-molecular formation rate, was the principle limiting factor to muon-catalyzed fusion. They now measured effects of ttμ-fusion, permitting an important correction to earlier determination of the α-sticking probability. Furthermore, new results show that the α-sticking fraction decreases significantly with increasing d-t gas density and tritium concentration
