Description

The main developments in recent years on investigating exciton dynamics in solids with wide band gap insulators, including rare gas solids, alkali halides, alkali earth halides and the ions crystals doped with rare earth by using synchrotron radiation are summarized. The developments include fundamental properties of the exciton, interaction between excitons and lattice especially self trapping of the exciton and the desorption due to exciton-phonon interaction, energy transfer between excitons and rare earth centers, the relaxation of high excitonic states as well as behaviour of the exciton in the clusters. Finally a typical experiment system is introduced
