Study of the ionization of products of nuclear reactions induced by heavy ions
Description
A broad-band magnetic analyzer has been used to measure the ionization of recoil atoms of the isotopes of V, Sc, Co, Ga, Dy, Pb, and Po produced in nuclear reactions induced by ions of oxygen, neon, and argon. Analysis of the charge distributions obtained has shown that the ionization of the recoil atoms in the mass region Aapprox.40--70 corresponds to the calculated values. With increase of the atomic number and excitation energy of the product nuclei of the reactions, there is an enhancement of the contribution of the additional ionization of the recoil atoms due to internal conversion of nuclear transitions with subsequent emission of Auger electrons. In the region of heavy nuclei, up to 90% of the ejected recoil atoms undergo additional ionization
