Radiation reduction and oxidation of cerium compounds in aqueous-methanolic solutions
Description
Radiation-chemical processes of radiation reduction and oxidation of cerium compounds in aqueous-methanolic solutions both in liquid and glassy frozen systems have been studied. Cerous acetylacetonate has been used as the model complex compound for studying the radiation chemical processes. The decomposition of the complex to free ligand acetylacetone does not occur in argon saturated solutions but proceeds in aerated solutions. The yields are strongly decreasing with the doses applied both in liquid and in frozen solutions. The yield of Ce(III) oxidation takes place only in aerated cerous nitrate solutions and is equal to 0.65 molec/100 eV. The reduction yield of Ce(IV) is equal to 6.8 and 3.4 molec/100 eV for ammonium ceric nitrate in argon saturated and aerated solutions, respectively. (author)
