Interrupted test method: the effect of specimen geometry

Description

The J-integral concept has two applications: fracture toughness testing of materials and mechanical analysis of structures. In this short paper, the test methods are not reviewed: only the interrupted test method is used and the ASTM standard test procedures are not considered. The objective is to point out that due to the large effect of specimen geometry, the results of material testing should not be used for structural analysis by means of the J-integral concept without an extreme care
