Idiopathic primary osteolysis: Historical analysis, description of new variants; proposal of a classification of the primary osteolysis

Description

The primary osteolysis is rare clinical entities, characterized by a slow and progressive bone resumption affecting any bone of the organism, but especially the wrist, tarsus and phalanges. It may be presented as an idiopathic form, but also may be secondary to others events, including trauma. Clinically it has several manifestations, in addition to the bone involvement, it can affect the skin, renal and vascular systems, etc. Our group of investigation have a special interest in detecting and studying these patients, so we are presenting five cases with primary acro-osteolysis, two of which are variables not described in the literature and another case is an infrequent carpo-tarsal osteolysis without renal involvement. We propose a classification to make their understanding easier
