Description
The Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory (SSCL) will consist of six accelerators, the largest of which is 86 km around. The overall time constant for acceleration of one store of beam will be approximately 20 minutes. This means that the control system for SSCL will need to have control algorithms based on physics models and simulations built into it from the beginning. The bandwidth requirements and implications for communication and computation are discussed below. (orig.)
