Description
In preparation for the fall 1992 outage, Maine Yankee determined that a number of its planned filtration and ion exchange activities would require supplementary equipment not available in the plant. A review of outage processing needs, as well as future requirements, led Maine Yankee to determine that a mobile trailer containing a number of process systems could be (1) moved, as necessary, to various sites around the plant, and (2) easily stored on site between outages. In late spring of 1993, Diversified Technologies was awarded a contract for a Filtration and Ion Exchange Trailer (F.I.T.S.), to be delivered in late summer in preparation for the outage. The trailer contained a multi-media deep bed filter and associated piping and flush tank, a tri-bag filter unit, dual demineralizers, a chemical addition tank and metering pump, static mixer, plant utility interface connections and other instrumentation and controls to permit filtering and ion exchanging the process stream in a variety of configurations. This paper discusses the design criteria, seismic considerations and operational requirements of the mobile trailer. Data and operating experience from full-scale outage operation is reviewed, including desludging of stream generators and dechromating of secondary systems
