Neutron scattering from paramagnetic cerium

Description

Mechanisms governing the linewidths and line shapes in inelastic neutron scattering experiments are briefly discussed. The scattering from γ-Ce is shown to be consistent with rapid Korringa relaxation of the f electrons by the conduction electrons. For α-Ce no magnetic scattering is observable. In CeAl2, while linewidths are large, indicating rapid relaxation, their temperature dependence is anomalous
