Carbon-ion radiotherapy for locally advanced uterine cervical adenocarcinoma

  • 1. National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology, National Institute of Radiological Sciences Hospital, Chiba (Japan)

Description

Ion beam therapy provides a superior dose distribution in cancer treatment compared to photons. Additionally, carbon-ion beams show a higher relative biological effectiveness, and thus a higher tumor control probability, while delivering a smaller dose to the surrounding normal tissues. Over two decades, we have been investigated the best way of carbon-ion radiotherapy for many malignancies. Uterine cervical adenocarcinoma show poorer prognosis compared to uterine squamous cell carcinoma. The clinical outcome of this disease remains far from satisfactory in conventional therapy. Here, we report the progress of carbon-ion radiotherapy for uterine cervical adenocarcinoma. (author)
