Study of coordination sphere of neodymium ion in solutions by the method of intracavity laser absorption spectroscopy

Description

Possibilities of the method of intracavity laser absorption spectroscopy (ILS) for the study of coordination sphere of Nd(3) ion in solutions and in glass are investigated. In ILS spectrum of neodymium nitrate aqueous solution there are 5 components, for dimethylformamide (DMFA) solution-6 components, for glass - 7 components. It corresponds to cubic symmetry of field surrounding Nd(3) ions in aqueous solution and to noncubic one - in DMPA solution and glass, which is confirmed by comparison of spectral data for neodymium nitrate dissolved in water and DMPA with spectral data for yttrium-aluminium garnet with neodymium additions. An assumption is made, that complexing with DMPA molecules takes place in a different way than in aqueous solution. It is pointed out that in case of ILS high resolution is combined with high sensitivity, which permits to work with weak absorption bands
