In the present state of know-how, the cost per kWh for an RNR is approximately 50% greater than for a PWR of equivalent power (1,200 to 1,500 MWe). This no doubt conditions the orientation of the studies to be conducted for further commercialization of fast breeder reactors, the emphasis being laid on their specific process characteristics -an accident like TMI seems hardly conceivable in a breeder reactor- and on technological simplifications, while maintaining a comparable level of safety with the PWR. Such trends will be developed herein, particularly as concerns cost, reliability and safety

Dans l'etat actuel du savoir-faire le cout par Kwh pour un RNR est approximativement superieur de 50% a celui d'un PWR de puissance equivalente (1200 a 1500 MWe). Ceci, sans aucun doute, explique l'orientation actuelle des etudes qui tendent a la commercialisation des reacteurs a neutrons rapides, l'accent etant mis sur les simplifications technologiques, avec un niveau de securite equivalent.
