The reflection and transmission functions for plane geometry by the reduction of finite medium to a problem of half space

Description

The reflection and transmission functions for slab are obtained by the reduction of the finite medium to the problem for half space by adding a source free semi-infinite medium. In writing down the balance equation for the angular flux crossing the boundaries for a flux incident on the left side of the system, the reflection and transmission functions for the slab are computed in terms of the reflection function for the half space. The reflection and transmission functions are computed in the case of one-velocity approximation with isotropic and anisotropic scattering and in the case of energy dependence. Numerical calculations are done for the case of one-velocity approximation to test the method. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Die Reflektions- und Transmissionsfunktionen fuer eine duenne Schicht werden durch Reduktion vom endlichen Medium zu einem Problem im Halbraum gewonnen, indem ein quellenfreies semi-infinites Medium hinzugefuegt wird. Aus der Gleichgewichtsbedingung fuer den Winkelfluss durch die Grenzflaechen im Falle eines von links auf das System einfallenden Flusses werden die Reflektions- und Transmissionsfunktionen der Schicht als Funktion der Reflektionsfunktion des Halbraumes berechnet. Reflektions- und Transmissionsfunktionen werden fuer den Fall der Eingeschwindigkeitsnaeherung mit isotroper und anisotroper Streuung und im Falle einer Energieabhaengigkeit berechnet. Numerische Berechnungen zur Erprobung der Methode wurden fuer den Fall der Eingeschwindigkeitsnaeherung durchgefuehrt. (orig.)
