Application of a method for curve fitting to nuclear reactions

Description

The purpose of the present work is to demonstrate a method of least squares symbolically. As an example of the application of this method to nuclear physics, we choose the case for the excitation of the (n,2n) reaction. About 23 isotopes whose atomic weights ranged from 23 (Na) to 209 (Bi) are considered. For, each isotope, we first obtained an empirical formula which best described the experimental data in the neutron energy range 13-15 MeV, then this formula is differentiated for the purpose of having the slope of the curve. This slope is a measure of the nuclear temperature of that isotope. This has been repeated for each isotope and finally the relation between (N-Z+1)/A the asymmetry parameter versus the slope is drawn. An empirical formula is also predicted and hence the slope for the excitation of (n,2n) reaction of any isotope, which is difficult to measure, can be estimated
