North Korea threatens withdrawal from Non-Proliferation Treaty

Description
On March 12, 1993 North Korea announced its intention to be with draw from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The decision, which was made public in a letter from Foreign Minister Kim Yong Nam to the president of the UN Security Council, is widely viewed as having potentially serious implications for East Asia security and for the global non-proliferation regime. The IAEA response and the reaction from the USA are briefly discussed
