Description

In this paper the effects of the partial substitution of zirconium by titanium and of chromium by iron in the Zr1-xTixCr1-yFe1+y Laves phase alloys on the P-C-T relations, especially on the plateau slopes, are systematically investigated. There is no compositional dependence on plateau slopes in the two phase region by iron substitution for chromium. The titanium substitution for zirconium in the alloys appears to be the determining factor for the degree of sloping. It is suggested from the above results that the sloping in the Zr-based Laves phase is originated from the difference in energy levels of interstitial sites toward hydrogen where the energy level of each sites is determined from the combined effects of two factors, a chemical energy and a strain energy
