Description
We have studied angular and momentum distributions of secondary electrons ejected in direct, Coulomb collisions of 6.4 TeV sulfur ions with electrons in thin targets of polypropylene (CH2)x, Al, and Au. Comparisons are presented here of knock-on electron data with calculations based on Born approximation differential cross sections for a point nucleus colliding with free electrons. With some noted exceptions, we find good agreement between experiment and theory. (orig.)
