Protection of the synchrophasatron electromagnet excitation coil against the contact between turns

Description

The principle of action and the features of the systems for protecting the synchrophasatron electromagnet excitation coil from contact between turns are described. The protection is based on the pinciple of comparison of the electromotive forces in the spools between the magnetic fields of dispersion of the upper and lower sections of the coil of the synchrophasatron sector. A feature of the principle is the fact that the shield does not respond to resonance excitations of the magnetic field, which has a different polarity in different sectors, in the regime of slow output of the accelerated beam of particles from the synchrophasatron. The spools are made of copper, weigh 15 kg, and have a resistane of 200 ohms, an outer diameter of 32 cm, and an inner diameter of 16 dm. The shield responds upon closing of one coil on the other with a coefficient of sensitivity of 3. The response time of the shield is less than 0.2 sec. A mounting diagram of the spools in the magnet section and an electrical diagram of their connection are given
