On-stream analysis of zinc and lead ore concentrates by radioisotope X ray fluorescence

  • 1. Institute of Physics and Nuclear Techniques, Cracow (Poland)

Description

The radioisotope X ray fluorescence system has been developed for automatic multielement analysis of zinc-lead ore slurries. In the paper special attention is paid to optimizing the determination of zinc and lead in concentrates. Two different calibration equations were tested, as were two different sources of primary radiation, 109Cd and 241Am. The results of laboratory trials indicated that in the case of large variations in solid content, this quantity should be measured separately by means of, for example, scattered primary radiation. Both radioisotope sources are suitable for concentrate analysis. On-stream analysis of zinc-lead ore concentrates was adopted for routine use in two mineral processing plants in Poland.
