Zirconium for sulfuric acid environments
Description
Zirconium is one of the few metals that resists attack by sulfuric acid at all concentrations up to 75% and temperatures to boiling and above. This capability makes zirconium an attractive structural metal to handle the difficult 40-60% H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ to boiling temperatures and weak acids at elevated temperatures. This paper discusses zirconium's corrosion properties in sulfuric acid solutions, the comparative corrosion data of zirconium versus several stainless alloys, examples of applications, and limitations in use
