Concentrations of total uranium in stream sediments of degree square 3222 (Beaufort West)
Description
The sampling, analytical and statistical procedures are described. Four groups were chosen for plotting: 1 (above 6.0 ppm U, anomalous), 2 (4.7 - 6.0 ppm U, partly enomalous), 3 (2.5 - 4.6 ppm U, background), and 4 (below 2.5 ppm U, anomalous low). The distribution of uranium on the map is controlled by geology and relief. Samples of group 1 and 2 are concentrated on 8 of the 16 1:50 000 sheets which contain 5 of the 9 known larger mineralized areas of degree square 3222. Only one mineralized area however is likely to be found in a limited follow up operation, to find the others practically the whole area would have to be resampled at a higher sampling density. It is believed that the present survey was not optimally efficient regarding the result-cost ratio and it is recommended to test other sampling densities or different sample siting methods to improve efficiency
