Development of on-line boron analyser for D2O moderator system of power reactors
- 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Analytical Chemistry Div.
- 2. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Reactor Chemistry Section
Description
Boric acid is increasingly used as a liquid poison in heavy water moderator systems of power reactors for controlling the reactivity during the start-ups. A method developed for continuous monitoring of boron-10 concentration in the moderator is described. Based on the principle of neutron flux depression, the experiments have been carried out using a 1 ci 239Pu-Be neutron source. A sensitivity of about 0.2 ppm 10B is obtained. (A.K.)
