Cross section for the production of H+(D+) ions from He+ + H2(D2) encounters below 7.2 eV
Description
A small cross section for H+(D+) production from He+ + H2(D2) reactions has been detected in ion beam collision-cell experiments. Below 7 eV (c.m.) this cross section exhibits a positive energy dependence down to approx. equal to 1 eV (c.m.). An inverse dependence is observed over the range 0.1-1 eV (c.m.). Possible mechanisms are discussed. (orig.)
