Test of a liquid argon calorimeter for the H1-detector with investigations on compensation via software techniques

Description

In Summer '88 a pre-series model of the inner-forward-calorimeter for the H1-detector was tested using electrons and pions from a CERN test beam. The performance of the calorimeter was analysed, with emphasis on charge calibration, noise in the read-out chain, HV-curve, energy calibration and longitudinal shower shape. A special study was done on software techniques to achieve compensation (ε/h = 1) for a non-compensating calorimeter exploiting the fine granularity of the device to spot electromagnetic energy deposits. Im Juli 1988 ist der neugebaute Prototyp fuer das H1-Fluessig-Argonkalorimeter, innerer Vorwaertsbereich, am CERN getestet worden. Die Testmessungen waren durch teilweise gestoerte Datennahmen und Ausfall von Elektronik etwas beeintraechtigt. Fuer eine Untersuchung der Eigenschaften des Viertelstacks standen trotzdem genuegend brauchbare Daten zur Verfuegung. (orig.)
