Energy analysis of various electric power plants for CO2 emission evaluation

Description
Electric power field takes about 30 % of CO2 emission in Japan, and is the largest source of CO2 emission in view of the classification by industries. Therefore, the countermeasures for reducing CO2 in electric power field is an important problem, and the countermeasures such as the change of fuel, the introduction of nuclear and natural energies, the improvement of conversion efficiency and the treatment for CO2 recovery have been examined. There are doubts in the effectiveness of the adoption of nuclear and natural energies and the change from coal and oil to LNG if all the required energies are considered. In order to answer this question, the analysis of the energy balance in a large power plant and natural energy power generation was carried out, and from its results, the CO2 emission from respective plants was calculated. The energy consumed for the construction and maintenance of respective plants and the mining, processing and transport of fuels was compared with the energy generated in respective plants. The energy analysis and the unit requirement of CO2 emission in respective plants are reported. (K.I.)
