The usefulness of reformatted images using oblique reconstruction on GE CT/T 8800

A reformatted image can be obtained as a picture of the optional section on the basis of the scanning data. Usually coronal and sagittal reformatted images are used as supplementary pictures of axial CT. However, it is not practical to make images from usual CT data with a slice thickness of 5-10 mm because of their poor vertical spatial resolution. We have now been able to get semicoronal and sagittal reformatted images with a good vertical spatial resolution in a short time by using oblique reconstruction on a GE CT/T 8800 apparatus. The details of this technique are explained, and some pictures obtained by this method from CT data with a slice thickness of 5-10 mm are shown. The reasons for the improvement in the spatial resolution are also discussed. (author)
