Neutron-induced damage in YBa2Cu4O8 superconductor observed by HREM
- 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan). Research Lab. for Nuclear Reactors
Description
Neutron-induced damage in YBa2Cu4O8 (124) type superconductor was observed by 300-kV high-resolution electron microscope. It was reported that neutron irradiation leads significant enhancements of the critical current density of this material. It was caused by flux pinning centers made by neutron radiation. High-resolution structure images of defects were observed. The defect are mainly related to the double Cu-O chains in YBa2Cu4O8. The size of the defect was 4-5 nm. The other hand, there was an another type of defect those size was smaller than 1 nm. (author)
