Resonant absorption at a rippled critical surface

Creators

  • 1. Saint Andrews Univ. (UK)

Description

When laser light is incident on a plasma, density variations perpendicular to the main density gradient may develop, producing a rippling of the critical surface. It is shown that such ripples can lead to resonant absorption of normally incident radiation and the magnitude of the absorption coefficient is estimated. (author)
