Molecular excitation effects on the absolute sulfur K x-ray intensity in electron bombardment and photoionization of SF6 and H2S

  • 1. Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas 76129 (USA)

Description

We discuss the enhancement of the absolute sulfur K x-ray intensity observed in the electron bombardment of SF6 over that from H2S or SO2 in terms of the contribution to the total K-shell vacancy production cross section from the excitation of the well-known molecular-state resonance in SF6 below the ionization threshold. The equality of the K x-ray intensity observed from the photoionization of the sulfur gases by an 55Fe radioactive source is also understood since the resonance is not excited in this case
