Description
We are developing a 70 MW pulse modulator to power a 25 MW S-band klystron for the Laser Photocathode linac (LPCL) project. The power supply for the klystron is required to deliver a 250 kV, 250 A, pulse of 5.5 μs duration at a repetition rate of 15 Hz. We present here the design details of the pulse modulator. We discuss the schemes being employed to develop its various sub systems, particularly the pulse forming network (PFN) and the pulse transformer. (author)
