Description
The object of this work is to examine the interactions between the activities of the nuclear industry (generating, transmission and distribution) and the environment, whilst showing to what extent the facilities are likely to affect it adversely and describing the measures taken to lessen the detrimental effects. The chapter dealing with radioactivity among the 'nuisance sectors' includes the following headings: natural radioactivity and the biological effects of radiation, the operation of a power station (principle, generating steam from nuclear energy, different types of reactors, safety barriers), radioactive effluents and wastes, nuclear controls and the environment, measures taken in the event of an accident occurring in a nuclear power station, the dismantling and decommissioning of power stations

Le present ouvrage a pour objet d'etudier les interactions entre les activites de l'industrie electrique (production, transport et distribution) et l'environnement, en montrant dans quelle mesure les ouvrages sont susceptibles de lui porter atteinte et en decrivant les mesures prises pour en reduire les effets nuisibles. Le chapitre consacre a la radioactivite parmi les 'secteurs de nuisance' comprend les rubriques suivantes: la radioactivite naturelle et les effets biologiques des radiations, le fonctionnement d'une centrale (principe, production de vapeur a partir de l'energie nucleaire, differents types de reacteurs, notions de barriere de securite), les effluents et dechets radioactifs, les controles nucleaires et l'environnement, les dispositions prises en cas d'accident dans une centrale nucleaire, le demantelement des centrales et leur declassementAdditional details
