Description

The interference problem in muon interactions is djscussed in a popular form. An experiment, studying muon deep inelastic scattering on carbon nuclei: μ+-+C → μ'+-+hadrons, is described. An experimental installation for the investigation of muon deep inelastic interactions was constructed in 1976-1978. It represents a 50-meter cylindrical magnetic spectrometer. The spectrometer consists of 10 magnets-supermodules. Carbon targets are situated inside these supermodules. Multiwire proportional chambers are situated between modules. Interference of weak and electromagnetic interaction was discovered both at energies of 120 GeV and 200 GeV. Thus, the effect, for which the intermediate vector boson Z0 is responsible, is detected
