The nuclear shell model - of nucleons or quarks?
Description
In this lecture the quark shell model of the nucleus is critically examined. Although the quantum numbers of the lowest states of the model are those of nucleons in the conventional model, there are big differences between the two pictures. The quark shell model is first described in a simple way. Then, some differences between it and the conventional shell model are pointed out. Finally, some predictions of the quark shell model are contrasted with experimental data. (orig./HSI)
