Interaction of ion acoustic solitons with Langmuir waves

  • 1. AN SSSR, Gor'kij. Inst. Prikladnoj Fiziki

Description

The interaction between strong ion-accustic solitons and Langmuir waves is considered in the approximation in which the soliton parameters are considered to vary slowly compared with the rate of evolution of the wave spectrum. The matrix for scattering of a Langmuir wave by an ion accoustic soliton of a given amplitude is found and then the variation of the frequency and wave number due to the Doppler effect is found. The variation of the soliton parameters due to the waves is found. Even when the level of the Langmuir noise is low, the characteristic time for soliton damping by the waves may be smaller than the damping time due to resonant particles
