Melter operation results in active test at Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant

The active test of the glass melter system of the vitrification facility at Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant (RRP) was performed from November, 2007 to January, 2008. In this test, the glass melter operation with highly active liquid waste generated from spent nuclear fuels at RRP was performed for the first time, and performance and processing capacity of the glass melter were confirmed. Through this test, good results were gained on the test items, but the long-term stable operation which was demonstrated during the cold test was not confirmed. Therefore, the cause investigation of observed matters was executed aiming at the following active test. (author)
