Technique for target irraiation in a sector-focusing cyclotron

Description

New technique for target irradiation has been applied for decreace of specific heat load on a target in a sector-focusing cyclotron and increase of target operation reliability when using powerful accelerated particle beams. According to this technique the target is placed in the zone of large gaps of the magnetic structure, in the ''valley'' and in the zone of final acceleration radius, the alternating vertical magnetic field supplementary to the guiding magnetic field is excited. Auxiliary magnetic field has the shape similar to the Fourier first harmonics-disintegration of the magnetic field by the accelerator azimuth. It can be reaized by means of harmonical windings intended for correction of lower harmonics of azimithal inhomogeneity of the cyclotron actual field by applying variable current component on its permanent value. Phase of the introduced forst harmonics is chosen so that displacement of orbit centres takes place in the direction parallel to the target surface that results in harixontal scanning of the beam over the target surface
