Anomalous normal-state magnetism coupled to superconductivity in YBa2Cu3Oy and La2-xSrxCuO4

Description

High transverse-field (TF) μSR measurements on hole-doped cuprates showing a spatially inhomogeneous response to magnetic field far above the bulk superconducting transition temperature (Tc) are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the intermediate hole-doping regime, where an inhomogeneous magnetic response has recently been observed in the normal state of YBa2Cu3Oy (YBCO) and La2-xSrxCuO4 (LSCO) that tracks the hole-doping dependences of both Tc and the density of the superconducting carriers ns below Tc.
