Gravel analysis of the Vah River terraces in the Liptovska kotlina Basin

Description

Fluvial sediments of the Vah River within the Liptovska kotlina Basin were developed in a form of river terraces. This accumulation feature record the paleo processes, which took a part in their formation. The character of depositions vary depending on a number of factors. To determine the character of fluvial sediments of the Vah River terraces within the Liptovska kotlina Basin was the aim of the study. Size, roundness, lithology and three markers of weathering of clasts was object of the analysis. Considering the extent of article, only relations of lithology, rust and complex stage of weathering of gravels to age of terraces were interpreted. In general, there is the largest portion of granitic (41,1 %) and quartzite (26,3 %) rocks, the tendency of rust is to increase with the age of terraces as well as the stage of weathering of its material. The resultant relative dating, can be used for the extrapolation of results of numerical dating. (authors)
