On the reaction of oxides of certain rare-earth metals and yttrium with Sb(5) oxides

  • 1. Moskovskij Inst. Tonkoj Khimicheskoj Tekhnologii (USSR)

Description

Interaction of coprecipitated hydroxides of Sb5 and some rare-earth elements with Y upon heating in air has been studied by DTA, X-ray phase analysis, infrared, and NMR spectroscopy. The formation has been established of defect solid solutions with a fluorite structure Lnsub(2-x)Sbsub(x)Osub(3+x), where x varies from 0.4 to 0.8, as well as of solid solutions with a pyroclorine structure x(Ln, Sb)2O3xySb2O5 containing up to 16-18% of Ln2O3. The phases LnSbO4 exist in two modifications one of which (low temperature) irreversibly transforms into high temperature (Ln=Y, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu)
