Experiments on the ATC Tokamak

Description

We present a study of electron density fluctuations in the ATC using both microwave and CO2 laser scattering. We observe fluctuations with wavelength between 2 cm and 0.3 mm and with frequencies up to 1.5 MHz. Their amplitude n(e)/mean n(e) is of the order of 10-2. We report also local measurements of the safety factor q and Zsub(eff). The value of q was obtained from the shifts of injected ion orbits relative to the magnetic surfaces; Zsub(eff) was obtained from the scattering rate of radially localized injected ions. Both these measurements indicate a peaking of Zsub(eff) on axis. Finally we present measurments of the parallel and anti-parallel fast neutral spectra which indicate very different profiles for Ti (parallel) and Ti (anti-parallel). (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Es wird eine Untersuchung der Elektronendichteschwankungen im Adiabatic Toroidal Compressor (ATC) unter Benutzung von Mikrowellen- wie auch CO2-Laser-Streuung vorgelegt. Dabei werden Schwankungen mit Wellenlaengen zwischen 2cm und 0,3 mm und Frequenzen bis zu 1,5 MHz beobachtet. Ihre Amplitude n(e)/mean n(e) ist von der Groessenordnung 10-2. Es wird ebenfalls ueber lokale Messungen des Sicherheitsfaktors q und von Zsub(eff) berichtet. Der q-Wert wurde aus den Verschiebungen der Bahnen eingeschossener Ionen relativ zu den Magnetflaechen und Zsub(eff) aus der Streurate radial lokalisierter eingeschossener Ionen bestimmt. Beide Messungen deuten auf einen Zsub(eff)-Peak auf der Axe hin. Schliesslich werden Messungen der parallelen und antiparallelen schnellen neutralen Spektren vorgelegt, die sehr verschiedene Profile der parallelen und antiparallelen Komponente von Ti andeuten.
