Repeating-pulse linear induction accelerator with magnetic commutation

  • 1. Institute of Nuclear Physics at Tomsk Polytechnic Univ. (Russian Federation)

Description

A four-section linear induction accelerator generating a pulse-train mode is described. To get a high repetition rate in the train, the shaping lines of the sections are connected via magnetic switches, viz. saturation chokes. A magnetic pulse generator is used to compress the pulses in time, and a controlled cathode with a dielectric emitter is used to generate a beam of current pulses with sharp edges. The ratings obtained when adjusting the installation are presented: the beam current is 0.8-1 kA, the electron energy is 2.4 MeV, the repetition rate inside the train is 3.3 kHz, and the number of pulses in the train is 5
