The effect of sampling pattern on statistical decisions

  • 1. Roy F. Weston, Inc., West Chester, PA

Description

The effect of several spatial sampling patterns and different sample sizes of radiological measures at Uranium Mill Tailing Remedial Action Program (UMTRAP) sites is examined by statistical and computer contouring procedures to determine a measure of statistical uncertainty. Examples are given of computer mapping and statistical decision procedures applied to data from the Vitro site at Salt Lake City, Utah, and the site at Riverton, Wyoming. The parameters examined at these sites are at radiological data such as gamma exposure rate and radium concentration in the soil at these UMTRAP sites. Recommendations are made for most appropriate sampling methods
