Description

The paper considers an approach to modeling the electric field in the magnetosphere and evaluates contributions from the diurnal variation in the major magnetic current systems. The magnetic field and the vector magnetic potential were determined by integrating over the major magnetospheric current systems. The temporal variation associated with daily precession of the geomagnetic dipole axis is contained in the representation of the vector magnetic potential. The induced electric field is significant throughout most of the magnetosphere, and the reaction of the magnetospheric plasma to this induced field and the total electric field are determined. Finally, the motion of low energy charged particles in such a nonconservative field is considered
