The environmental debate

  • 1. NEA Radiation Protection and Waste Management Division (Australia)

Description

Both the difficulties encountered and basis for potential solutions when dealing with the management of hazardous wastes, whether they be toxic chemicals or radioactive substances, are presented. It is stressed that safety and protection of human health and the environment should be taken into consideration very early on in the study of installations likely to produce hazardous waste and a suitable regulatory system should be set up to monitor the hazardous substances from production to waste generation and disposal under safe, duly inventories and authorised conditions. 2 refs
