Effect of temperature on the elastic-plastic fracture toughness in A516 Gr70 steel

  • 1. Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Sung Kyun Kwan Univ., Seoul (Korea, Republic of)

Description

Elastic-plastic fracture toughness JIC tests were performed on A516 Gr70 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-87 at temperatures ranging from room temperature (20degC) to 600degC. Load line displacements were measured by a high temperature extensometer. Experimental results showed that, the JIC value and R-curve determined by the high temperature extensometer agreed well with those by the COD gage. Load-displacement results during the J-tests showed an evidence of strain aging phenomenon at temperatures above 200degC. It was concluded that, temperatures ranging from 20 to 600degC, fracture toughness JIC values were decreased with increased temperatures
