A method for manufacturing uranium dioxide and uranium oxide powders

Description

The method consists in introducing into the reaction zone, a first gaseous reactant constituted by a mixture of uranium hexafluoride with a reducer gas, separately introducing into the reaction zone a second gaseous reactant constituted by an oxygen containing gas and separately introducing into the reaction zone a gas forming a barrier between these first and second gaseous reactants until a sufficient transverse diffusion of the reactants has occurred in said barrier-forming gas. This can be applied to the manufacture of uranium dioxide

Abstract (French)

Le procede consiste a introduire dans la zone de reaction, un premier reactif gazeux constitue d'un melange d'hexafluorure d'uranium et d'un gaz reacteur-reducteur, a introduire separement dans la zone de reaction un second reactif gazeux forme d'un gaz contenant de l'oxygene, et a introduire separement dans la zone de reaction un gaz ecran entre le premier et le second reactif gazeux qui empeche temporairement un melange important du premier et du second reactif gazeux jusqu'a ce qu'une diffusion transversale suffisante des reactifs dans le gaz ecran ait eu lieu. Ceci est applicable a la fabrication de poudres de bioxyde d'uranium
