Description
This paper has focused on the physics aspect of radiation intensity measurement based on counting. A new approach for on-line correction in radiation measurements is proposed. This approach is based on the concept of estimation and correction of counting losses due to dead time and the recovery characteristic of the detector/interface circuit. A practical synthesized circuit has been presented to evaluate the true radiation event rate, within some approximations. Also, the limitations, expected from a setup formed from a detector/interface circuit, are presented. This approach is implemented in portable survey-meters. Their performance is verified through calibration by the National Institute for Standards NIS-Egypt
